Business and Enterprise Centre
This project will create a purpose built Business & Enterprise Centre for the DDEP sub-region with the aim of stimulating a culture of enterprise in Derbyshire, promoting the formation of new businesses and creating a more highly skilled workforce.
The project has been designed to fill a gap in Derbyshire's business support infrastructure. There is currently no dedicated facility where enterprise skills can be developed and new business ideas explored. It will support the creation of an integrated framework for activities to stimulate enterprise from schools, through the HE curriculum, post-graduation and into the community and workplace.
By concentrating on skills and pre-start support, the Centre will complement existing business incubators for new start businesses in Derby City and Derbyshire. It will provide a home for a range of activities aimed at stimulating higher level skills and an entrepreneurial culture in the DDEP area and it will support the germination of new business ideas that could then move onto incubators and subsequently to managed workspace. This is an important distinction as the proposed centre will not displace new businesses from existing workspace. Instead it will encourage and develop budding entrepreneurs and 'feed' them into incubators and grow-on workspace in the DDEP area.
The project has been awarded £2,740,000 by DDEP.
