Business Improvement Techniques (BITs)

Run by Derby College's Engineering Academy, this business development programme uses short practical training courses to provide 40 hours of guided support on how to improve the way a company trades. Its flexible nature also means that employers can also elect to have employees trained at their premises.

As well as the initial 40 hours training, an optional two day assessment to identify further areas requiring improvement is available, with an extra day on top of that to help the companies put the measures into action. Companies are recruited into the scheme through the East Midlands Manufacturing Advisory Service, Midlands Aerospace and Amicus the Union. Project organisers hope that 45 separate firms will go through the programme before it concludes in March 2006.
