Improving Knowledge Transfer Between HE & SMEs
In Derbyshire alone 99.6% of firms, crucial to the economic well-being of the region, are SMEs and many of these are located in rural areas. The University of Derby (UoD) as the only University in Derbyshire is geographically well placed to provide knowledge and technology transfer opportunities to those SMEs in this sub-region that find it difficult to participate in the economy.
The School of Science, at the UoD, has a vast amount of multi-disciplinary expertise, particularly in terms of environmental sustainability and cleaner production processes, and we recognise the need to transfer this knowledge more effectively into sub-regional SMEs. Initially we propose to improve access to specialist expertise and analytical equipment so as to provide SMEs with a competitive advantage in the sub-region
However, in order to carry this out effectively we need to ensure that expertise is up-to-date and analytical equipment related to knowledge transfer activities is maintained to industry standards.
