Sharpe''s Pottery Museum

The project will complement the Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre based within the museum.

Improvements consist of:

• Restoration works to the former kiln will enable this space to be further utilised for a greater range of activities as it will not be so open to adverse weather conditions. Reduced energy costs will occur as a result of the restoration.

• The creation of a new National Forest Gallery within the museum utilising former office space. Works will include minor internal alterations to the space, interpretation panels, furniture, audio-visual equipment and preparation of materials

• From April 2009 a project manager will be specifically employed on a two year fixed term contract to lead the implementation of the project. This will include the physical improvements to the attractions and facilities of the Museum, improving the organisational structures and processes that will sustain and enhance the quality of service to visitors and developing the proposals for the transformation of the acquired site.

The project has been awarded £314,250 by DEP.
