National Forest Training for Work

The project will provide rural employment related training to people in the SSP area. The training will focus on providing forestry and countryside management skills to those wishing to enter the rural employment sector or those wishing to expand and develop an existing business in this area.

The project aims to assist in the development of a viable and sustainable rural economy in the South Derbyshire area by building a local skills base around the emerging needs of the National Forest.

Key aspects of the project include:
  • Providing work place woodland training to ensure that farmers and particularly those in the over 45 age group maximise the economic, social and environmental potential of their new woodlands.
  • Developing a rural apprenticeship scheme aimed at college leavers and graduates. Ensuring that rural graduates view the National Forest as the place to develop their career or rural business.
  • Working with local agriculture/conservation colleges to add value to their rural training programmes, helping students to bridge the gap between education and employment.

This project has been awarded £149,965 by DDEP
