Workstation Derby
The project will provide coordination of employment support activities in the most deprived neighbourhoods through an outreach service with recruitment advisers operating in the neighbourhoods to ensure closer contact with the harder to reach unemployed and economically inactive.
Arising from current and potential new developments in and around the city centre, a number of other significant employment opportunities will present themselves over the next two years. These include several large hotels, some sizable office developments, the QUAD and Riverlights. As these developments come on line, Workstations role will be to prepare and support potential employees from Derby's priority neighbourhoods.
The project aims to:
- provide residents with the skills and support to compete for new jobs in retail, tourism/hospitality, creative industry and high manufacturing sectors
- engage new employers to identify the skills they require and undertake their recruitment
- develop stronger sector clusters in retailing, tourism, creative industries and high value manufacturing (as identified in the City Growth Strategy).
This project has been awarded £165,962 by DDEP
