West Street Cultural Quarter

In response to major private sector investment in South Derbyshire over recent years DEP provided funding to assist with investment in the town centre.

The project delivered a programme of public realm works that will revitalise Swadlincote town centre. It is anticipated that the attraction of visitor spend and private investment, benefiting both the local economy and the development of The National Forest.

The public realm improvements encompassed a co-ordinated programme of landscaping, paving, street furniture and signage. Through a comprehensive environmental improvements scheme, the aim is to provide the town centre with a strong identity, attractive public spaces without clutter, a uniformity in materials and street furniture, improvements to accessibility and high quality public art, whilst maximising the potential of the town's heritage assets. The design and choice of materials incorporated traditional high quality materials, aiming to enhance the local distinctiveness of the town centre and thus its appeal to visitors.

The project has been awarded £445,000 by DEP.
