Hardwick Hall
The regeneration of Hardwick Hall is currently underway. The £multi-million regeneration of the former stableyard will become a new visitor centre with restaurant and retail units allowing the site to become a year-round tourist attraction.
The funding will enable the South Range of Stableyard buildings to be converted into new visitor facilities including a much bigger retail area, improved restaurant, multi-use community space including meeting rooms and a new reception building. The story of the Stableyard and Estate will be told by innovative interpretation throughout the buildings. All of the new facilities will make use of renewable energy technology including a biomass boiler and solar panels.
The main visitor car park will also be relocated from its current position near to the Hall to a less historically sensitive location near to the new Stableyard development.
The proposed new facilities would be located outside of the pay barrier for Hardwick Hall itself and open 364 days a year, meaning that visitors would not have to pay a Hall entrance fee to use the facilities and could use them even when the Hall is closed. The new development would also offer increased employment, educational and volunteer opportunities for local people.
The project has been awarded £870,000 by DEP.
