Public Realm Derby Market place

The aim of this project is to enable Derby City Council to enhance the quality of the public realm in Derby city in line with the Derby Cityscape Master Plan and the Derby City Public Realm Strategy, focusing on the areas around the Ford Street car park and the east end of the Market Place.

The project will:

  • Extend the 'Pay and Display' Car Park at Ford Street by transforming an area of waste ground to the front of Friar Gate Studios into a pay and display car park (640m2).
  • Enhancement of the public realm area (1195m2) surrounding the Market Place and the new QUAD building. The public realm works will include:
    • Landscaping to the area immediately around the QUAD building. This will also include the area between the vehicle access and the south wall of the Tourist Information Service.
    • The area of highway in front of the new Derby Register Office, along its eastern frontage made into a clearly demarcated access and egress for the Market Place combined with a project to install electrically operated bollards at either end.
    • The area and entrance to the Box office and Assembly Rooms Car Park.

This project has been awarded £739,500 by DDEP
