Hope Valley Vocational Training Centre
A much needed construction training skills centre has now opened in the Hope Valley offering nationally recognised qualifications. The centre has been developed by Derbyshire County Council's Adult Community Education service in partnership with Hope Valley College, with a grant of £57,000 from the Rural Action Zone.
Hope Valley College is running a course on 'Construction and the Built Environment' for year 10 and 11 school students. The Derbyshire ACE service is offering a range of accredited and general interest construction courses for adults. These include City & Guilds programmes in woodwork (both furniture, and carpentry and joinery) plastering, plumbing, brickwork and welding; preparation for the construction health & safety test; and other courses in heritage building skills, Home & garden Improvements, Family DIY, Welding & Wrought Iron work, woodwork, and first aid.
Support to launch the project has also come from the College of the Peak, as part of the Leader Plus programme in the Peak District.
Advice and support will also be available for those who want to go onto higher levels of study. For more information contact Steve Bond, 01433 620662.
