Poole''s Cavern
Buxton is a popular tourist destination but there are a limited number of attractions to entertain visitors once they arrive. The Poole's Cavern tourist attraction has been owned and managed by the Buxton Civic Association for the last thirty years, but the existing show cave and its visitor centre were outdated and required substantial upgrading and investment.
DEEP's Rural Action Zone has provided grants funds in the sum of £118,500 towards the total cost of £350,000 to carry out the following:
- Alterations to the Visitors' Centre
- Renewal of the interpretative exhibition in the Visitors' Centre
- Rewiring and relighting of the cavern
- Securing the car park and providing children's play equipment
Renewal of handrails and balustrades in the main chamber
The project has been awarded £118,500 by DDEP.
