Rural Services Programme
Phase 2: Tender and deliver the identified package of initiatives within the rural areas of the DDEP Sub-region.
The detail of Phase 2 will be developed on completion of Phase 1. At this stage a similar model to the Leicestershire Access to services programme is envisaged which combines several initiatives under one umbrella scheme providing the potential for specialist advice and grants for businesses.
Discussions to date in developing the project have highlighted the following areas of activity for consideration:
- Specialist retail advice;
- Need for staff development / training;
- Initiatives which encourage diversification e.g. into new lines, provide information for tourists etc.;
- Investment in new technology to improve efficiency;
- Co-location of services e.g. ''Pub is the Hub'' initiative;
- Collaborative ventures / initiatives;
- Support for the development of community -owned shops;
- ''Shop in a box'' style interventions as piloted by Nottinghamshire RCC;
- Providing a link between RSA and other national bodies and local rural retailers / service providers e.g. through providing a circulation service for information.
