Cawdor Quarry

This project has enhanced the public realm infrastructure in and around Cawdoor Quarry in Matlock and has seen the remediation of contaminated land together with the regeneration of a derelict 25.5 ha brownfield site.

A much-needed relief road has been created to divert traffic away from the town centre, easing congestion. This in turn has allowed Sainsbury's supermarket to move to the site.

The bus station has been moved to a site adjacent to the train station and a new car park has been created in order to create an integrated transport interchange. It is hoped that this will encourage people to use public transport and help enhance tourism within the town. There's also a new footbridge to connect the town centre to the new developments in the former quarry. The public footpath on riverside has been improved and the surrounding area has been landscaped.

Phase two of the project, will see the re-development of the remaining brownfield land to include 432 dwellings, community facilities, recreational space and 2,000 sq m of office and workshop space.
