College of the Peak

The College of the Peak has been working with partner organisations to develop new and innovative learning across the Peak District. A particularly successful and high profile element of this programme has been the creation of the highly acclaimed 'Walls for the Future' training programme (dry stone walling training) and construction skills awareness raising in the built heritage and conservation sector (training in lime mortars and renders, stonemasonry and stone slate roofing). A Creative Woodland Crafts course has also been piloted (traditional woodland management and greenwood crafts training).

The college aims to help young people develop skills which they can use to live and work where they were born, to help people already in employment improve their skills and people wishing for a career change. They also provide weekend short courses as either an introduction or as an alternative kind of holiday, encouraging tourists into the area

The project has been awarded £35,000 by DDEP.
