Business Link| - Information. Support. Compliance. Business Link is government's online resource for businesses. It contains essential information, support and services for you and your business - whether you work for a large organisation or are on your way to starting up.
Simple to use, up to date and practical, Business Link is the first place to go to find guidance on regulations and to access government services. It also has a number of useful online tools, calculators, and best practice case studies; and provides access to funding options, as well as wider support.

StartUp Britain| is a new campaign by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, designed to celebrate, inspire and accelerate enterprise in the UK.  

Solutions for Business| is a suite of publicly funded business support products and services designed to help businesses start, grow and succeed.

Manufacturing Advisory Service| is one of the products in the Solutions for Business suite and as the leading advisor for manufacturing can provide you with practical, hands-on support focused on improving your bottom line. Whether you're looking to improve efficiency, raise productivity, develop new ideas or tackle a problem that is hampering profitability, our experts are here to help and if you are an SME all our support is either free or highly subsidised.

Networking For Innovation| helps businesses to build relationships with universities and/or colleges, to develop and exploit new ideas. It is aimed at businesses with specific technical or scientific research and development requirements, which may be eligible for a grant to establish a network they can share information with.

Helping your Business Grow| - UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is the Government Department that helps UK-based companies succeed in the global economy and assists overseas companies to bring their high-quality investment to the UK.

UKTI staff are experts in Helping Your Business Grow Internationally. We provide expert trade advice and practical support to UK-based companies wishing to grow their business overseas. With 2,400 staff and a presence in 96 countries, UKTI can assist you on every step of the exporting journey. Whatever stage of development your business is at, we can give you the support that you need to expand and prosper.

Through a range of unique services, including structured programmes, participation at selected trade fairs, outward missions and providing bespoke market intelligence, we can help you crack foreign markets and get to grips quickly with overseas regulations and business practice.

PRIME|, the charity founded by HRH The Prince of Wales to help unemployed people over the age of 50 to get back into work by starting their own businesses

Princes Trust |- Around one in five young people in the UK are not in work, education or training. Youth unemployment costs the UK economy £10 million a day in lost productivity, while youth crime costs £1 billion every year. We address this by giving practical and financial support to the young people who need it most. We help develop key skills, confidence and motivation, enabling young people to move into work, education or training.

Shaw Trust| Shaw Trust is a national charity which supports disabled and disadvantaged people to prepare for work, find jobs and live more independently.

Prowess|  is here to support women‘s business and enterprise.

Young Enterprise| to inspire and equip young people to learn and succeed through enterprise.
 

 SEEM| are the social enterprise business development service for the East Midlands area. Local Business Accelerators| is a groundbreaking national initiative that harnesses the power of local newspapers to give a much needed boost to local economies.  A newspaper near you is seeking out the best new businesses in your area for whom to award three months free advertising and a program of dedicated business mentoring.

ICAEW Business Advice Service |- This new scheme will play a vital role in the business support landscape, offering a free advice session to SMEs in over 1,000 locations across England, Wales and Scotland. Small businesses are the engine of the UK economy. Yet their size means they often lack the financial expertise needed to get off the ground, raise finance, create jobs and grow. Launching in September, ICAEW’s Business Advice Scheme is intended to boost the prospects for a private sector-driven recovery by offering a helping hand to SMEs across the country.

How it will work
• The scheme will offer businesses a free advice session with a qualified ICAEW chartered accountant.
• Businesses can use the BAS website businessadviceservice.com to find their nearest office.
• Currently around 1,000 offices are participating in the scheme. We expect this to rise to 2,000 over the coming months.
• The advice sessions will be available in offices across England, Wales and Scotland

Midlands Aerospace Alliance| - Has launched a new business support and development service for member companies.

The East Midlands Food and Drink iNet| co-ordinates specialist support for businesses, universities and individuals working in the region’s food and drink sector. We can show businesses how to find new and better ways of doing things such as researching, developing and implementing new products, services and processes that could transform their business. We also run events that provide new knowledge and skills and connect SME’s with a valuable network of contacts and specialists to help become more innovative and competitive.

What does the Food and Drink iNet offer?
• Highly experienced advisers that provide a free, impartial and confidential innovation service. Advisers can talk to you about business ideas, provide expert advice and help find contacts to solve problems.
• Funding and subsidised support for innovation projects. Two or more East Midlands-based universities may be eligible for a Collaborative Research and Development grant, while qualifying businesses can claim subsidised support through Innovation, Advice and Guidance.
• Events that keep attendees up to date on the latest developments and opportunities and allow attendees to network across the sector and with iNet advisers.

What could it do for a food and drink business?
• Fill a skills gap through subsidised innovation support and identify external funding opportunities.
• Put them in contact with others that you can work with to explore innovative ideas and solve problems.
• Assist in networking events within the sector.
• Help identify the benefits of innovation coming out of the universities through iNet funded research.

The Food and Drink iNet is one of four iNets originally joint funded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and the European Regional Development Fund. (ERDF) The Food and Drink iNet is managed by a consortium led by The Food and Drink Forum and including: the Food Processing Faraday, Nottingham Trent University, the University of Lincoln and the University of Nottingham.

The Transport iNet |is an ERDF funded business support project that brings together businesses, supply chains and research institutes to foster innovation and collaborative research across sectors, technologies and academic disciplines.

The iNet provides direct innovation support to help SMEs across the East Midlands region develop new products and services, overcome barriers, and achieve sustainable business growth.

Medilink EM| is the East Midlands life science industry association, whose aim is to help companies establish, develop and grow.Its network of more than 4,000 contacts in over 600 organisations represents all aspects of the sector, including private and public institutions; from multinationals to high potential start-ups, as well as the NHS and universities.

Healthcare and Bioscience iNet, a project part financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

The Healthcare and Bioscience iNet is an innovation project delivered by Medilink East Midlands and part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It supports businesses, universities and individuals to develop and commercialise new technologies, processes, products and services. It provides targeted, proactive support to stimulate growth by increasing innovation, improving productivity and securing sustainability, thereby helping people along the innovation journey from concept to commercialisation.

• Information and Advice - The iNet’s accredited advisers help innovators to anticipate and define issues relating to their innovation projects and to develop strategies to address them.
• Contacts - Through its sector knowledge and network, the iNet team can help innovators meet potential collaborators, suppliers and other support organisations.
• Opportunities - The iNet broadens horizons by exposing innovators to new opportunities. It helps create links between relevant people and supports activities that raise innovators’ profiles.
• Funding - The iNet provides help identifying external sources of funding as well as managing two grant funds itself: Collaborative Research and Development (CRD) and Innovation Advice and Guidance (IAG).

BioEducation Lab: Bringing Bioscience to Life

• For Schools - The Bio-Ed Lab runs half or full-day workshops for up to 16 people at a time. There’s a range of fascinating, fun and practical activities, for example, extracting your own DNA, disease diagnostics in action etc.

Biomat-IN: A transnational project to support innovation in biomaterials
The biomat-IN project aims to stimulate innovations in biomaterials, by creating multidisciplinary collaborative research across 5 leading European clusters
• Eurasanté and Atlanpole Biotherapies in France
• Bioregio Stern in Germany
• LIOF in the Netherlands
• Medilink East Midlands

Biomaterials are already used extensively in many medical applications. With rapid advances in technology areas from tissue engineering, polymer chemistry, electronics, to materials science; the potential for further developments is huge. To take advantage of these advances will require new strategies in multidisciplinary research.
This project seeks to:

• Provide key information on the specialist know-how and market opportunities available
• Stimulate and facilitate transnational collaborations: linking industry, academia, clinicians, as well as technologies and facilities
• Establish a long-lasting support framework to assist the implementation of transnational R&D
Launched in March 2011 and lasting 3 years, with a total budget of €1.24 million, this project is part financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the Interreg IVB North West Europe programme.
