The DEP Board has 21 voting members and 2 observers. The Chair is a representative of the business community and is supported by a further 5 Board members from the Private Sector ; there is also representation on the Board from the County and each of the District Councils and other public bodies, the sub-regional universities and the voluntary and community sector. The observers are the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and Government Office for the East Midlands (GO-EM).

The duties of the DEP Board are to:
a) Advise on the commissioning, selection and approval of investments in future projects.
b) Strategically monitor the implementation and the effectiveness of existing programmes and flagship projects, reviewing performance in line with agreed objectives, targets and outcomes.
c) Comment on the preparations and delivery of the planned economic assessment for Derbyshire including core priorities for future investment.
d) Set the strategy for the Partnership’s investment in economic regeneration activities including the development of the Sub-regional Investment Plans, particularly with regard to Single Programme funding.
e) Provide a reference point for the development of future investment plans that have an interest to Derbyshire partners.
f) Establish and agree policies and plans to achieve the objectives of the Partnership.
g) Approve the annual work plan and budget before external publication.
h) Establish and oversee a framework for delegation of its powers to committees and support officers with proper systems of control.
i) Advise on and progress any other economic regeneration focused activities which the Partnership Board considers is for the benefit of the Community of Derbyshire.
