Rural communities that do not have access to next generation broadband are set to receive a share of £1 billion of government investment. The Next Generation investment will upgrade the UK’s digital infrastructure to bring super-fast broadband to 90% of the country.
The consultation paper gives details of the key benefits the project would bring, including:
• Telemedicine, providing real-time interaction with a doctor
• Teleworking which uses two-way video conferencing to facilitate working from home
• Cloud computing which enables businesses to use the internet to store and access software and data and share resources
