Local Action Group board member vacancy

The Leader Local Action Group (LAG) has a vacancy for a representative from the rural areas of Derbyshire Dales, Staffordshire Moorlands or High Peak.  

The Local Action Group manages delivery of the Peak Leader - a £1.7m funding stream from the Rural Development Programme for England. Meetings are held on average 3 times a year and members advise and decide on the funding proposals from Businesses and Community representatives across all sectors from the area.

LAG members agree the budget allocations for the priority areas and allocation of the funding to applicants to deliver the Local Development Strategy for the area.

The aim of the Peak Leader programme is to create more jobs, safeguard existing jobs, attract investment from the private sector to the area and develop community services. Support is directed to:

  • supporting farm productivity
  • developing small businesses
  • supporting tourism and the visitor economy
  • heritage developments
  • rural services and supporting the woodland economy through forestry improvements.

The Local Action Group currently has 16 members and are seeking to fill a vacancy with members of the public with an understanding of the issues faced within the business, farming and community sectors in the rural area. The group has a range of skills and experience and conduct business effectively and professionally, new members will receive a comprehensive induction by the Peak Leader Manager before joining the board.

The vacancies are open to all and the chair of the Local Action Group will decide on the most appropriate person to invite to join the board. Closing date 31 August 2017. The next meeting is scheduled for 11 October 2017.

These roles are unpaid and are likely to require an average maximum time of six hours, three times a year, including the attendance at LAG meetings which are held in rotation across the area of Derbyshire Dales, Staffordshire Moorlands and High Peak.
