What is it?

Derbyshire Economic Partnership has been awarded RDPE funding provided by the EU and Defra totaling £2.4m until 2013. The funding is to be delivered via the “LEADER” method, a bottom-up approach to rural development across the 'rural' areas of Staffordshire Moorland, High Peak and Derbyshire Dales .

The initiative is designed to deliver Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE) measures aimed at enhancing rural productivity and improving the quality of life in the Peak District with a particular focus on grant assistance to projects from farm diversification, to micro rural businesses (1-10 employees) and social enterprises, for projects which are too small for the main RDPE programme.

Commenting on the work done to date Cllr. Lewis Rose, Chairman of the Local Action Group commented:

"LEADER has been designed to address the gaps identified in current provision within the Peak District Leader areaand complement existing activities.  LEADER is enabling us to support our key industry sectors, such as land-based businesses, micro-enterprises, tourism, and heritage."

"The first phase of grant activity has been designed to help support organisations that are most likely to be affected by the current slow-down in the economy.  Support is also being provided by a project called 'Bright Sparks' which is assisting local communities to develop their own local basic services."
