GRANT FUNDING SUPPORTS RURAL BUSINESS
The fund, which is available until 2013 dependant on the availablility of continude grant funds provided by the European Union and Defra, has been awarded by East Midlands Development Agency (emda) and Advantage West Midlands and is being delivered across the Peak District Rural Action Zone by the Derbyshire Economic Partnership (DEP) and Derbyshire County Council.
LEADER, which was launched locally in October 2008, has been designed to improve economic productivity and quality of life in the Peak District Rural Action Zone and is aimed at giving financial help to very small rural businesses and social enterprises.
Grants from £3,500 upwards are available and the type of projects support can be seen in Leader News Items at the side of the page.
Commenting on the work done to date Cllr Lewis Rose, chair of the Local Action Group, commented:
“LEADER as been designed to address gaps identified in the current provision within the Peak District Rural Action Zone and complement existing activities, in order for us to support our key industry sectors, such as land-based businesses, micro-enterprises, tourism and heritage.”
“The first phase of grant activity has been designed to help support organisations that are most likely to be affected by the current slow-down in the economy, including micro-enterprises and agricultural businesses. I would encourage any business that meets the criteria and is looking to diversify its interests or develop a new project to apply.”
