Roebuck Old Foundry
The renovation and restoration of a former foundry in the heart of Chapel-en-le-Frith Conservation Area to create offices and storage for an expanding local company and a workshop to relocate a valued local employer from unsuitable premises nearby.
The project used locally sourced materials as well as reclaimed stone from site and was undertaken using local labour throughout.
The building, semi-derelict for many years, has been brought back to life and now fully contributes to the vitality of the local economy and also constitutes an enhancement of the character the historic environment.
The project has so far sustained two local jobs, with an opportunity to take on apprentices at a future date, and created facilities for several more jobs in future.
It was always intended to relocate the garage workshop into half of the space to be recreated. Originally, however, the office element was to become new premises for NG Webb Ltd, but in the process of carrying out the works a local businessman expressed an interest in leasing the property and his business is now fully operational in the other 'half'.
