Wirksworth Swimming Pool Trust
Derbyshire Dales District Council like all local authorities has been required to make savings on its budget and there was some uncertainty over the future of the Wirksworth swimming pool.
After a long piece of community consultation DDDC have agreed to pass the pool into community ownership. A group of local people have come together to form a charitable company which took over the running of the pool from 16 April 2012.
A business plan was devised and financial projections made. However, the business model overlooked the necessity for an onsite receptionist, due to the absence of a reception. It assumed reception duties might be provided with the support of the sports centre and an online booking system. Discussions with customers and the sports centre suggest that this could prove problematic and jeopardise the success of the venture.
The Leader grant will be used to create a reception facility in the short term and develop plans for the construction of a permanent purpose built staffed reception.
Leader grant £13,777.
